I took this on the way back from Top Withens in January this year. The snow was only at the higher levels that day.

I select my favourite images from my walks and travels (photographed with my Nikon D3200) and post them here. I also add any notes of interest about the making of each image (either at the time or afterwards on the computer). I hope you enjoy looking at my photos and would love to see your comments. Fence, wall and reflections at Lighthazzles reservoir.
I've posted a photo of this wall in Lighthazzles reservoir before (see 18th May 2015), but from a different angle. I love the contrast between land and water, and the way the reflections give them a surreal floating effect.

Low water and autumn hues at Ryburn reservoir.
I took this one in October last year. The edges of the reservoir were dry and cracked, but from a distance seemed to create a rainbow of subtle colours - from the orange of the fallen leaves at the top, through the green of the grass shoots beginning to sprout, to the purple of the mud at the bottom.

Clouds and sunshine above Lighthazzles reservoir.
I took this on a morning walk from Blackstone Edge in March last year. It was one of those days that varied between bright sunshine one minute and rain the next.

Reflections of clouds and blue sky in an iced-over reservoir outlet.
This is an outlet from Warland reservoir above Littleborough, photographed in March last year. I love the temperature contrast - the warmth of the sun against the cold of the ice.

Dovestone Rocks viewed from beneath Alderman's Hill in the Peak District.
Last night my son took part in another fell race that meant driving to an area I'd never visited before - the edge of the Peak District near Oldham. The scenery is stunning and I'm already planning to go back and explore with my camera. We were standing on the track that runs around the low edge of Alderman's Hill (where the race was held - you can see one of the markers on the wall) when I took this photo of the view across the valley. You can just see the corner of Dovestones Reservoir on the right. The weather was playing games with us again - hot sunshine mixed with heavy rain, providing dramatic lighting in the hills and sky.

Upper Gorple reservoir viewed from Gorple Stones.
It was the first warm day of last year when I took this photo (at the end of April). I walked a route around both Gorple reservoirs and Widdop reservoir, climbing many of the rocks en route. It wasn't an easy day for photography as it was so bright - I had to make quite a few Lightroom adjustments to the raw file.

Dramatic clouds over Wainstalls and Luddenden.
I took this one on a cold afternoon in January this year. We'd just walked up the moor from Wainstalls, passing the reservoirs (Cold Edge Dams) in the picture on the way.

Reservoir outlet on wintry moorland.
This is one of the water outlets from Walshaw Dean reservoirs at Widdop. I took the photo in January this year at the start of a walk over to Top Withens. This is another good example of man-made structures meeting nature; I think the pink/brown colours of the drain walls and its curves really complement the rolling hills around it.

Lower Laithe reservoir viewed from Penistone Country Park.
I took this one in October last year, whilst my son was taking part in a fell run around the disused quarries in the park. This view is looking towards Stanbury - Top Withens farmhouse (the supposed inspiration for Wuthering Heights) is somewhere on the distant moor to the left; Haworth (the home of the Brontes) is off the right of the picture.

Winter moorland reflected in Walshaw Dean middle reservoir, Widdop.
I took this one on the outward leg of my walk from Widdop over to Top Withens and back in January this year. The ruined cottage on the left of the moor is the one I photographed close-up on a previous walk (see my blog post from 12th Sept last year).

Winter sunshine on Walshaw Dean middle reservoir, Widdop.
Here's another photo from my walk yesterday. This was on my way back, having reached Top Withens farm and retraced my steps. The sun came out for about 20 minutes and was actually quite warm, giving everything a lovely, colourful glow. You can just see the remaining snow on the top of the far moor, close to where I'd just been walking.

Baitings reservoir on a damp October day
Another reservoir shot today, but a very different one to yesterday's. This is Baitings reservoir, between Ripponden and Blackstone Edge. I took the photo a couple of weeks ago on a family walk. The clouds were low and the air damp but the views were still worth seeing.

Low evening sunshine on Blackstone Edge reservoir
This one's from April this year, when my son and I went for a wander around the reservoir with our cameras. I love the effect of sun sparkling on water, and the sun hitting the edges of the rocks in the foreground helps to make this more of a picture.

Electricity pylons alongside Blackstone Edge reservoir
I usually try to avoid getting pylons in my photos, but sometimes they actually enhance them. This one is from March this year, at Blackstone Edge reservoir above Littleborough.

I took this at the end of April this year, on a lovely warm, sunny day. It's the top end of the reservoir (Lancashire end), taken from the path over to Upper Gorple.

Cloud reflections on Warland reservoir (2)
Another tranquil view across Warland reservoir on a lovely March day this year. Always the odd black cloud around though, just to keep you wondering whether you're going to get wet!

Little cloud part covering the low sun above Blackstone Edge reservoir
I took this one evening at the end of April this year. I liked the reflection of the sun on the water, but it wouldn't have been a great photo without the little cloud covering up some of the brightness from the sun and revealing its rays.
If you zoom in, you can also see a windfarm on the far horizon.

Cloud reflections on Warland Reservoir
Another one from Blackstone Edge today - this time from a sunny day in March earlier this year. I took lots of photos that day and just love processing them - it makes me feel like I'm there again seeing the scene for the first time!
