Blue doors on an old textile mill

This is Shaw Lodge Mill on Boys Lane, in the bottom of the valley in central Halifax. I took the photo in April last year. I really liked the lines of the metal fire escape and the way the blue doors stood out from the stonework. To enhance this feature, when processing the raw file in Lightroom, I desaturated everything except the doors.

Man-made structures on the Lancashire moors

I don't know what these little brick structures are - they're on the moors between Blackstone Edge and Lighthazzles reservoirs, above Littleborough. I'm sure this will divide opinion, but I really like their colours and shapes - their state of disrepair also appeals to my liking for 'falling-down' buildings. I also like that this picture includes the pylons - more man-made structures that line our moors and divide opinion.

Gull Crag cliffs and Lilburn Tower at Dunstanburgh Castle

I took this whilst on holiday in Northumberland in August 2013. This is on the north-eastern edge of the 14th century castle's grounds. As the name suggests, these cliffs are full of gulls - perched, swooping around and making lots of noise.

Bare tree trunks in foggy Whinlatter Forest.

My husband and I went for a walk at Whinlatter Forest with the dogs on this damp morning during our holiday to Keswick in August last year (the kids were at an adventure centre for the day). I took my tripod intending to get exactly this type of shot, as the clouds were low on the hills, creating atmospheric, foggy conditions. This type of light also seemed to make the greens and russets on the ground and tree trunks even more vivid.

Across the Calder valley from the approach to Stoodley Pike

This is from November 2014, taken on a walk from Hebden Bridge to Stoodley Pike, Todmorden. The photo looks across the valley around the Eastwood area. I love the colours and the quality of the mid afternoon autumn light.

Little sheep above Cragg Vale, Mytholmroyd.

Happy new year everyone!

My friend and I had just climbed up the valley side from the Hinchliffe Arms pub when we passed this little sheep in June this year. It was posing perfectly against the shadowy valley of Cragg Vale so I took a quick photo. We then carried on to walk around Withens Clough reservoir and back.
