Early Autumn on the River Wharfe at Bolton Abbey

Here's another picture from my visit to Bolton Abbey last week - a much wider stretch of the river this time. The leaves are just starting to change colour - I'd love to go back in a few weeks to get the full Autumn palette.

Camera/lens settings: ISO 100, f/7.1, 1/125s, 35mm, hand held.

Bare silver-barked tree in Autumn vegetation.

This is at Penistone Country Park near Haworth/Oxenhope - I took the photo in October this year, whilst walking the route of my son's fell race around the old quarries.

Camera/lens settings: ISO 100, f/2, 1/800s, 35mm, hand held.

Autumn trees reflected in a mill pond.

I took this photo of the pond behind Gibson Mill at Hardcastle Crags a few weeks ago. I'd just managed to get my composition right and got a couple of shots of the different trees when 2 big labradors leaped into the pond, sending ripples right across it and destroying all the reflections.

Camera/lens settings: ISO 200, f/4, 1/125s, -1 step exp bias, 35mm, hand held.

Colourful slopes above Summit Tunnel

I took this one on a walk from Walsden this weekend. The railway line runs right underneath the slopes in the foreground of the picture, via the 1.6 mile long Summit Tunnel, built in the 1800s.

Camera/lens settings: ISO 200, f/7.1, 1/40s, 35mm, hand held.

Burst of autumn colours at Hardcastle Crags.

Here's another one from the Crags this weekend - I love how the colours pop out of the shadowy woodland at this time of year.

Camera/lens settings: ISO 100, f/2.2, 1/100s, -1 step exp bias, hand held.

Autumn foliage.

I don't know what these plants are, but their delicate, feathery tops are lovely in autumn. I took this photo on Norland moor in November last year.

Camera/lens settings: ISO 100, f/5.3, 1/100s, 46mm, hand held.

Autumn leaves on a wooden bridge at Hardcastle Crags.

Another one from my walk around the Crags this week. I've photographed this bridge before, but with a greater depth of field. I thought a shallow depth of field would work well this time with the colourful fallen leaves.

Camera/lens settings: ISO 100, f/2.5, 1/60s, -1 step exp bias, 35mm, hand held.

Raindrops on a fallen oak leaf.

Here's another macro shot from last week's walk round Hardcastle Crags.

Camera/lens settings: ISO 100, f/7.1, 1/100s, 90mm, hand held.

Overlapping valleys in Todmorden.

This one's from almost exactly a year ago, on a valley-top walk around Sourhall-Cornholme-Todmorden. This photo is taken from above Cornholme, looking past Todmorden (hidden to the left) towards Walsden (the sun-lit far horizon is above Littleborough).

Camera/lens settings: ISO 200, f/8,1/80s, 36mm, hand held.

Autumn foliage in a disused quarry.

We were back at Penistone this weekend for the junior quarry races which my son takes part in. The colours in the foliage are lovely at this time of year so I took a few photos of my surroundings whilst waiting for the runners to return.

Camera/lens settings: ISO 100, f/1.8, 1/1000s, 35mm, hand held.

Autumn leaves.

Another one from yesterday's walk at Hardcastle Crags - a beautiful mixture of autumn colours.

Camera/lens settings: ISO 200, f/2.8, 1/160s, 35mm, hand held.

Old, dead tree against an autumn backdrop.

I posted a picture of this same tree on my blog on 11th December last year - that one was a black and white, foggy, atmospheric scene. This one is totally opposite - the vibrant autumn colours of the trees in the background helping to clearly define the white of the dead tree.

Camera/lens settings: ISO 100, f/8, 1/200s, 55mm, hand held.

Low water and autumn hues at Ryburn reservoir.

I took this one in October last year. The edges of the reservoir were dry and cracked, but from a distance seemed to create a rainbow of subtle colours - from the orange of the fallen leaves at the top, through the green of the grass shoots beginning to sprout, to the purple of the mud at the bottom.

Camera/lens settings: ISO 200, f/11, 1/40s, 18mm, hand held.

Foggy autumn woodland.

Another one from early November last year at Hardcastle Crags. This is one of my favourite times of year at the Crags - the colours and light are gorgeous.

Camera/lens settings: ISO 200, f/7.1, 1/40s, 18mm, hand held.

Multi-coloured fern amongst fallen leaves.

I spotted this unusually coloured fern at Hardcastle Crags early in November last year. I love the textures and patterns too.

Camera/lens settings: ISO 200, f/5.3, 1/50s, 42mm, hand held.

Woodland in Autumn.

Today's photo is from Hardcastle Crags on a slightly misty morning early in November last year. The light and colours were beautiful.

Camera/lens settings: ISO 200, f/5.6, 1/50s, 34mm, hand held.

Contrasting tree lines in autumn woodland.

I love the mixture of colours in this photo from November last year. The main reason I took it, though, was to show the contrast between the crooked, horizontal foreground branches and the straight, vertical trunks in the background - they almost look like they're trying to hide them.

Camera/lens settings: ISO 200, f/5.6, 1/30s, 55mm, hand held.

Colourful mixture of autumn branches and foliage.

I took this one at the top of Maple Dean Clough, Norland, in late November last year. I love how many colours are packed into this frame - particular the tiny splash of orange in the centre - and how well they complement each other.

Camera/lens settings: ISO 400, f/5, 1/80s, 32mm, hand held.

Little waterfall at Maple Dean Clough, Norland (2)

Here's another one from my walk from Sowerby Bridge to Norland in November last year. Instead of a tripod, I used a bean bag to rest the camera on to get the long exposure.

Camera/lens settings: ISO 100, f/22, 2.5s, 22mm, bean bag & remote release.

Autumn leaves drifting along the canal.

This abstract shot is a long exposure of leaves drifting along on the surface of the canal, mixed in with the more static reflections of the trees and sky above. I took it in October last year in Sowerby Bridge.

Camera/lens settings: ISO 100, f/11, 8s, 24mm, ND filters, tripod.
