This is my third post from August 2013 showing alternative views inside the limekilns at Holy Island (search my blog using the label 'limekilns' to find the others). I love the old stone walls and their shapes, textures and colours. Looking back now I can't believe I used ISO 100 for these shots - at 1/10s without a tripod I must have been holding my breath! I'd like to go back and have another go now I know a bit more about how to use my camera.
Camera/lens settings: ISO 100, f/5.6, 1/10s, 18mm, hand held.
I select my favourite images from my walks and travels (photographed with my Nikon D3200) and post them here. I also add any notes of interest about the making of each image (either at the time or afterwards on the computer). I hope you enjoy looking at my photos and would love to see your comments. If you like a photo, please also share it via your social media using the buttons below each picture...thank you!

Lime kilns on Holy Island (2)
This is an alternative view of the lime kilns to the image I posted on 21st October. I really like the shapes and textures - could spend ages capturing different views and angles in there!
I made a few changes to exposure, contrast, shadows and highlights and converted to black and white in Lightroom.

Lime kilns at Holy Island
This is another one from our holiday to Northumberland in August 2013. The lime kilns are at Castle Point on Holy Island and you can wander through them and actually climb into the kilns. They were built in the 1860's and are really well preserved. They were used to make quicklime (mostly for use as a fertiliser) by burning limestone and reducing it to powder.
Post production I converted to monochrome, increased exposure and contrast slightly, cropped to get symmetry and added a small dark vignette that helps to draw your eye down into the tunnel.
