Muddy woodland at Ogden Water.

This weekend I visited one of our local reservoirs - Ogden Water. My son went for a long muddy run across the surrounding moors, whilst I wandered around the woods with my camera. This is the last photo I took on the day - it's a muddy, but very colourful, ditch over a wall beside the car park.

Low water and autumn hues at Ryburn reservoir.

I took this one in October last year. The edges of the reservoir were dry and cracked, but from a distance seemed to create a rainbow of subtle colours - from the orange of the fallen leaves at the top, through the green of the grass shoots beginning to sprout, to the purple of the mud at the bottom.

Muddy path between trees and mossy walls.

This is the Luddenden end of the path that runs past the church and alongside the river up the valley bottom. I took the photo at the end of a walk around the valley back in February this year. I love the different bright shades of green in the moss and leaves and the way the light catches the muddy puddles.

Muddy, puddled track between trees

Here's another muddy, wet scene from a walk along the Luddenden valley in February this year. This is just before you come out from under the trees and the valley opens up ahead of you.

Puddle and rock cairn on Ogden Moor

This is on the moor above Ogden Water, Halifax, taken a couple of weeks ago. I'd just passed the wind farm and was following this path across the muddy moor, hoping it would eventually lead back to where I parked the car (it did!). I find muddy paths very photogenic, especially when there's a nice sky to reflect in the puddles. The rock cairn added some interesting shapes and tones too.

Walls, fields, trees and mud in the Luddenden valley

I took this today on a 3 hour walk around the Luddenden valley, not far from where I live. My Dad told me I'd done this walk when I was little, but I don't remember it. Dad told me the views were wonderful, so today I got my map out and set off to rediscover it! He was right - a lovely walk and great photo opportunities (and I didn't get lost!). I think it'll become a regular trip.
