Wooden doors on a stone barn.

I walked past this barn a few times on holiday in the Lake District this year and noticed how lovely the wood looked against the pale stone and roof. Each time, however, there was a big 4x4 parked right in front of them. (The barn is just beneath Catbells, on the road down to Stair.) Eventually, I decided to just photograph the bit I could see, above the vehicle. In Lightroom, I de-saturated everything but the doors, to help them stand out.

Camera/lens settings: ISO 100, f/9, 1/125s, 35mm, hand held.

Woodland scene at Jumble Hole Clough.

It was the blue door that made me take this photo (in April this year), although it's a lovely little woodland scene anyway. I like the way the blue painted wood stands out from all the greens.

Camera/lens settings: ISO 100, f/6.3, 1/80s, 35mm, hand held.

Blue doors on an old textile mill

This is Shaw Lodge Mill on Boys Lane, in the bottom of the valley in central Halifax. I took the photo in April last year. I really liked the lines of the metal fire escape and the way the blue doors stood out from the stonework. To enhance this feature, when processing the raw file in Lightroom, I desaturated everything except the doors.

Camera/lens settings: ISO 100, f/10, 1/100s, 24mm, hand held.
