A glimpse into the cabin of a Farne Islands tour boat.

This one's from August 2013, photographed on a trip out to the Farne Islands from Seahouses harbour.

Camera/lens settings: ISO 100, f/10, 1/100s, 40mm, hand held.

Looking up at Lindisfarne Castle, Northumberland.

I took this in August 2013 whilst on holiday in Northumberland. I love the shapes in the castle wall (including the 'face' in the section on the left - see my post on 6th Nov 2015) and how well the textures and tones fit with the grey skies. It would be great to have chance to take this shot again on a stormy day with darker clouds.

Camera/lens settings: ISO 100, f/13, 1/50s, 32mm, hand held.

The North Sea, viewed from St Aidan's dunes, Seahouses.

This is one of the few photos I've got left to process from Seahouses in August 2013. I remember having climbed up the dunes whilst my sons and husband played cricket on the beach. I found a quiet place and just sat and watched the waves for a while. There's nothing visually exciting about this photo (other than a large ship on the horizon if you zoom right in!) but I think it stirs the other senses - I can smell the sea, hear the waves and feel the warmth of the sun when I look at it.

Camera/lens settings: ISO 100, f/11, 1/100s, 29mm, hand held.

Weather-worn beach rocks (5)

I'm finally getting towards the end of my Northumberland photos from Aug 2013 - only a handful left to process now, and this is the last 'rocks' one. As before, I took this photo on Seahouses beach - brilliantly shaped and coloured rocks!

Camera/lens settings: ISO 100, f/11, 1/80s, 20mm, hand held.

Rocks and pebbles on Seahouses beach (2)

More of the lovely, colourful rocks on Seahouses beach, photographed on our last holiday there in August 2013. Like the rocky beach at Whitby, I could (and probably did) spend hours taking photos here!

Camera/lens settings: ISO 100, f/11, 1/40s, 18mm, hand held.

Dunstanburgh Castle beyond rock pools north of Craster

We'd just been for a wander around Dunstanburgh Castle when I took this photo in August 2013. Instead of following the path back through the fields to Craster, we diverted down onto the rock pools to see what we could find. One of the things I found was a better view of the castle!

Camera/lens settings: ISO 100, f/13, 1/80s, 22mm, hand held.

Little shell on a rock on Seahouses beach

I took this one in August 2013 whilst on holiday at Seahouses, \Northumberland. I liked how the smooth, white shell contrasted against both the rough, dark rock and the blue sea and sky in the background.

Camera/lens settings: ISO 100, f/5.3, 1/125s, 48mm, hand held.

'Face' in Lindisfarne Castle wall

Whilst I was looking up at the castle wall, framing out a photo (on holiday in August 2013), one of my sons spotted this 'face' in the wall. There's a hat, eyes, nose and mouth and, to me, it looks just like Pinocchio, the puppet.

Camera/lens settings: ISO 100, f/13, 1/20s, 55mm, hand held.

Rocks and pebbles on Seahouses beach

Some more wonderfully shaped and textured rocks from Northumberland - photographed in August 2013. The only problem taking photos in this area is deciding what not to photograph!

Camera/lens settings: ISO 100, f/11, 1/25s, 24mm, hand held.

Boats at Craster harbour, Northumberland (2).

Here's another view across the harbour at Craster - this time looking out to sea beyond the brightly coloured little boats and harbour walls.

Camera/lens settings: ISO 100, f/11, 1/60s, 18mm, hand held.

Limekilns at Holy Island (3)

This is my third post from August 2013 showing alternative views inside the limekilns at Holy Island (search my blog using the label 'limekilns' to find the others). I love the old stone walls and their shapes, textures and colours. Looking back now I can't believe I used ISO 100 for these shots - at 1/10s without a tripod I must have been holding my breath! I'd like to go back and have another go now I know a bit more about how to use my camera.

Camera/lens settings: ISO 100, f/5.6, 1/10s, 18mm, hand held.

The top of the dunes at Seahouses

Here's another one from Northumberland, August 2013. A bit a of a clichéd subject, but I just wanted to take a version of my own!

Camera/lens settings: ISO 100, f/11, 1/125s, 32mm, hand held.

Dramatic sky over the sand dunes at Seahouses

This one's from our holiday to Seahouses, Northumberland in August 2013. These are St Aidan's dunes on the way up the beach towards Bamburgh. I love this stretch of beach - vast sands and vast skies, quite often with a dramatic mixture of clouds like this.

Camera/lens settings: ISO 100, f/11, 1/125s, 32mm, hand held.

Lifebelt and ropes hanging on the harbour wall at Seahouses.

I took this one in August 2013. I really like the simple mixture of lines, colours and textures in every bit of the picture - the sky, wall, belt and ropes.

Camera/lens settings: ISO 100, f/10, 1/80s, grad filter for sky, 28mm, hand held.

Bright sunshine sparkling on the waves on Bamburgh beach

This is another one from a walk along Bamburgh beach in the middle of a sunny day in August 2013. These are the type of conditions that you get advised not to bother taking photographs in, but I really like the effect of the bright sunshine on the water and sand.

Camera/lens settings: ISO 100, f/13, 1/160s, 55mm, hand held.

Multi-coloured layered rocks on Seahouses beach

More interesting rocks on Seahouses beach - it's full of them!

Camera/lens settings: ISO 100, f/4.5, 1/400s, 22mm, hand held.

Interesting rock on Seahouses beach

An interesting rock that I found on the beach at Seahouses, Northumberland, on holiday in August 2013. It looks like a little planet!

Camera/lens settings: ISO 100, f/5.3, 1/160s, 46mm, hand held.

Fishing/tourist boat at Seahouses harbour

This one's from our last Northumberland holiday in August 2013. This is one of the boats that takes visitors out to the Farne Islands. I assume they were all previously fishing boats that have now been converted to carry people instead. We've been on the same trip out to Longstone Island twice now and all loved it - I would quite happily go again on future holidays too.

Camera/lens settings: ISO 100, f/13, 1/160s, 70mm, hand held.

Weather-worn beach rocks (3)

These lovely coloured and shaped rocks are on the beach at Seahouses, Northumberland, photographed in August 2013. It's amazing to think the wind and water can carve such intricate designs - natural sculptures!

Camera/lens settings: ISO 100, f/5.6, 1/100s, 18mm, hand held.

Life on the sea rocks

I took this one of the rocks on the shore line of Longstone Island, Northumberland, whilst sitting on the boat waiting to sail back to Seahouses. It's incredible how much life there is in one small section of rock - weeds, molluscs, algae etc - so many lovely shapes, colours and textures!

Camera/lens settings: ISO 100, f/10, 1/100s, 116mm, hand held.
